Drawing mandalas
For this mindful drawing exercise, we’ll be drawing a mandala with smaller circles inside, overlapping to create shapes and images. Thanks to our Art Therapist and volunteer, Sara Mitchell for this great drawing exercise and for providing these examples!
Materials
Paper
Plate or large bowl
Glasses or cups
Pens
Process
Draw around the plate or bowl to make a circle on a piece of paper.
Use the glass or cup to make circles inside. Overlapping circles are good.
You can use the bottom of the glass/cup as well as the rim.
Colour in, shade, or draw different patterns inside the circles.
See if you can discover images and add more detail.
Use patterns like dots, scribbles, stripes, checks to create patterns.
More patterns and inspiration
Try out these patterns with circles or squares. Draw extra circles to fill in, or try drawing a simple grid with a ruler and fill in each of the squares with different pattern.
